Concluding 2007

31st December 2007, New Year's Eve

Sitting in front of my workstation with an hour gone after reporting to work for the first time in roughly a week and a half, I started to perplexed myself with why I even bothered to waste 4 hours...
Then I realized it was to salvage a day of precious leave to be brought over the next year which should arrive in mere hours...
Another plus factor for coming to work is the ability to use a PC which doesn't shut down on you at such persistent fashion, I had grown accustomed to...
Yesterday was just atrocious with the CPU heat sink kept reaching the temperature of a boiling point even though it was left on idle...
At first I thought it was just the watching of avi files that would trigger the shutting off, now just clocking a good 20 minutes or so will culminate into yet another frustrating impromptu shut off...
For a person who constantly requiring the usage of his PC as well the fact that I need to do some major updating for my webpage at the end of the year, this is not the ideal case...
My usual PC doctor, my dear old Pepsiman CS will be out of town, basking in the sun in Krabi with his better half & most probably be able to solve this niggling issue 2 weekends from now...
Got some solutions online, perhaps will try my hand on it later today...

No major countdown celebration coined for today and the clique spent our celebration prior on Saturday when Bryan treated us for a movie to commemorate his birthday on the 2nd of January.
The movie, "Vexille", a CGI movie brought to us by the good people who also gave us "Appleseed" which talks about the human population in Japan being replaced by an entire nation of androids after a twisted technology experiment went terribly wrong...
We went into the Picturehouse which is perhaps the only place screening this movie without much expectation as no one really bothers reading the synopsis and ended being quite entertained with that bold storyline and intricate CG including a beautifully drawn character by the name of Maria...

I felt I'll just idle at home for this last day of 2008 in the comfort of my room, perhaps savoring some red wine with flavored cheese and perhaps rent a DVD or two now that my PC is deemed incapable to entertain me no more...
Though my fireworks-fetish missus would want to dropby any of the spots around the island which might satisfy her appetite for some sky illuminations...

Looking back the year....
I feel 2007 had been a peaceful one (for myself and not in terms of the world now with tension everyone especially Pakistan now and we are at the brink of a global meltdown literally) and I kind of get what I wanted for the past year...
A couple of Japan trips surely was the highlight of the year and a nice pay raise and an enjoyable working environment making work tolerable, even more so for someone as less expectant with career improvement like myself...
On the social aspect, the La Tendo clique has been my salvation at times especially with my wife was getting to the act and was glad they provided her with some of her needs as well...
Yu-kun's dual visits, Ferris & Lisa's wedding and the prompt relocation certainly were some of the notable events for us...
Glad to be able to hang out with my wrecking buddies at greater frequency this year as well as our common interest in our hobby surely is a reinforcing factor...
Family-wise, we had our ups and downs and one year on, I felt the missus surely has assimilate herself comfortably to my family despite she was out most of the time.. Didn't visit my in-laws as much as I should and just glad despite an unfortunate bout of illness that was shrouding my younger brother-in-law, I was glad there hadn't been any major problem for them as in 2006...I will try to fulfill the role of a caring son-in-law in 2008 but highly unlikely to do so...

Other notable issues that had been hogging my otherwise mundane life include:
- Got my NDS Lite in March... was a great investment
- Man Utd won yet another title though they could had get the treble if they want to
- an ominous local anime distributing company pisses the local community off with their despicable actions, caused quite a commotion in July
- Prices went up on everything which is due to petrol price and natural disasters which disrupt usual agricultral supply..GST went up as well...let's hope no more increment of anything in 2008 but seems unlikely
- Navy and the whole National service shit is getting on my nerves...after serving my obligations in April with the distraughtly trip to Kao-shiung, I will have to go again in coming April..Bummer

2008...The major highlight would be a probable promotion with the next appraisal and everything runs like a well-oiled engine to make that happen...
Another hobby-themed trip to Tokyo in February... a mere 4 days but to me it's more than enough...
Perhaps should conjure a Hong Kong trip with the clique perhaps at the end of next year whenever Karen is enjoying her school holidays...
Contemplating of getting Playstation 3 when all the great games starting rolling out next year and of course a revamp of my beloved PC
Ultimately my resolution for 2008 surely has to be better utilization of the precious amount of time I had at hand...Most importantly keep myself healthy physically and mentally and be diligent at work and let my superior acknowledged my work...
Domestic-wise, hope for another eventless year and a clean slate of health for everyone I love dearly... It is ok we are not living off better than now, but we could be much worse off...
As for a new addition to the household...I doubt it would be that soon...even though I am reaching my big 30 in November...can believe I am prepared to be a thirty-something...

Here's to a great 2008!

Japanese word of the day: 自動シャットダウン(Auto Shutdown) Let's hope life doesn't go on automatic shutdown like my PC as well in 2008

Till 5 in X'mas morning

25th December 2007, Tuesday...X'mas

As the title of this post implies..it was around that time we decided to put our merry time to a close this morning...

The day began when I was sent to La Tendo by the missus where my squad, Team Red (or Black) with the choice of color of the shirts we donned after prior synchronization.
We huddled by the Koufu food court to discuss on the questions we had intended to stumble our opposition with for the "Win,Lose or Draw" and it seems we tried to refrain to be as devious as last year

It was close to 9pm when we set off to EK's place after getting the beverages which included some sparkling juice for the festive mood and tea of all kinds...

Everyone was set for attendance as anticipated till the news of dear Chan (who I had been circulating dubious tale of "Brokeback Mountain" tendency with) has been smothered by the flu virus and decided to recuperate at home...His bubbly presence will be sorely missed but not as much as EK and his Team White...
In replacement, they invited their weekday staff, a lad by the name of Sean to fill the void...

The ladies setting up the tree which EK felt was unnecessary before before we cajoled him to put it up anyway to house the presents...

After Ferris and myself helped the host to pick up the food for the night at the vegetarian deli nearby, we waited patiently for the LT crew to cease operation and arrive and ultimately halt Miyano for her persistent hushing them hurry...

It's a more Western-style cuisine this year round and surely fit the holiday much better. The gang love it, so it must surely be a wise choice on EK's part...

Vincent trying out the "Mario Party" on Wii to see if it was suitable for the game later.

We began the duel with "Mario Kart DS" and it was a nerve-wrecking time for most of us but it was realy fun rigging up 6 NDS for some wi-fi-enabled racing...

A look at the 2 teams...Easy to see which one has more chemistry.

We played 3 rounds and as expected EK was running away the victor in the games he was involved in. Fortunately our team managed to racked up the points with successive good finish...

At the end of 3 rounds, we were leading by a massive 25 points...

The clock as a quarter past 12 when we were done with our virtual karting and it's time for "kanpai" and when the sparkling juice took center stage.

Next up "win, Lose or Draw"... There were 2 rounds...Category 1: Movies and TV shows
Categiry 2: Everything Things.
And a final speed round with a mix of both categories of 10 questions in succession...

Looks like the real thing, huh?

Pocahaunted? "Pocahontas" done by Karen...

Miyano thought she would crampled under pressure but we all felt she did a good job.

I drew this....Guess what it is

Ferris didn't scored point for us at first but put up a great performance in the speed round

The crowd captivated with Sean's masterpiece .

We were on form with Yanhui giving a good rendition of "dentures cleanser". At end of round 2, we were leading by 40 points...

With that gulf of a score to catch up, Team White has to put in whatever they had with the Wii Sports...

Vincent & wife setting up the controllers as the novice get their first experience of the game

After we routed them in 3 rounds of tennis, EK beat me in the 1st boxing bout. Karen then won the night for us as she put the results beyond doubt as she soundly knock out Lisa to the delight of the spectators...

After the victors had been announced, we dabbling with the Wii just for fun. First Vincent versus Ferris

Then Corin meets Yanhui....

Before we settle some marital differences out in the boxing ring.

Vincent and Karen hiting some home-runs.

Before we called it a night, we had the gift-exchange session with order of gift-unwrapping determined by the birthdays...

From myself to Bryan: a jacket and long sleeve shirt flown in from Japan

From Tay-chan to Vincent: a motor shaver and a cool CD holder

From La Tendo to Karen: a mock gift of trading card box (since she collects boxes for fun) and 2 jelly which everyone assumed was from the absent Chan

From Vincent to Ferris: a litter of fortune kitties for their new household

From Bryan to EK: the One Piece pop-up book he had his eyes on for ages now

From Yanhui to Corin: a Guess handbag to satisfy her bag fetish

From Ferris to Tay-chan: A nice customised jersey, perfect for our badminton session

From EK to Miyano: the Sims 2 expansion set she wants and a lip balm

From Corin to Lisa: a French maid apron with complimentary stockings and an amulet for blessing

From Lisa to Myself: the matching customised jersey....we can start our own football team now

From Karen to Yanhui (for 2nd year running): a woven bag & a travel-use toiletries bag

From Corin & Karen to Yanhui for her birthday: a nice pearl-pendant necklace and a Swarovski brooch

From Vincent & Miyano to EK & Yanhui: Tokyo Disneyland exclusive Mickey & Minnie Mouse keychain figures

From Chan to Karen: the real deal.. a One Piece bounty collage jigsaw puzzle which he bidded for from online auctions and painstakingly rigged it up and put a nice frame on...Got both the lucky receiver & Vincent moved to tears..I supposed

After the satisfying gift exchange, we had intended to Mr Vexar Chan who we truly missed his absence and had wildly speculating he was having a nice romantic candlelight dinner with a special someone a call to greet him a merry X'mas but in the end it was him who sent a mess SMS at 4 in the morning...

As the rest started to leave for home for a good rest after this great party, the remaining of us stayed over to catch as much rest as we could before departing later in the morning...

Another wonderful party to savor for this end of another great year for our clique..now counting down the 364 days to the next one

Japanese word of the day: 偽の~ni-se-no~(Mock) It's always fun to see someone receiving a mock gift then be overwhelmed with the actual one
