Unacustomed to Prolong Dining Outside

3rd December 2007, Monday

~It's the season to be foll...I mean...jolly...fa-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la~~
Yes we had entered December with yuletide yodeling to do at the end of it, something to really look forward to..
Of course that annual leave clearing activity, meaning I had exactly 2 and a half weeks to go to really relac-on-corner at home..woohoo!!

The past week had been a rare one with aspect to dining...
Whenever I am home-based I would rarely go 2-3 days without dining a meal at home...
Being such a domesticated person, I had been well accustomed to my mom's cooking that by missing a few meals within the week, my entire biological make-up will go haywire which was what exactly happened as a combination of viewing of anime with the lads and helping out La Tendo with their opening had done to me...

The flu bug had been fervently been spreading around with the missus down with illness just days back, I too felt that all so familiar queasy dry feeling of the throat followed by the running nose over the weekends...
Fortunately heeding the advice my health supplement-fanatic wife, I had my staple of supplements plus frequent exercising, I felt my immune system is stronger than ever before to combat the ever mutating viruses...

So as mentioned La Tendo after months of toiling with renovation and moving as well as constant bothersome answering their faithful customers of where the new shop will be and when the move will actually happened; they finally they unleashed the "Singapore's biggest glass entrance" on Saturday to slightly lukewarm reception, more on that later...

But on Friday, the shop was still very much littered with goods with new shipment waiting to be packed...it was a longshot to actually be ready for business...
So almost the entire gang (with the exception of Bryan) heeded the dire call for assistance and scurried down to Kallang to render any help possible so that opening will be proceeded as scheduled...
As clock was ticking ever so deafening as dusk befalls, we started to complete the task each of us were allocated to such as lining up the miniatures for display, cleaning the glasses to be speckless and presentable enough, vacuuming the carpet, logging in the prices of the new arrivals into the system etc...
I was assigned with Karen to arrange some loose trading figurines in boxes still which seemed a straight forward task except it was like a neverending story as the blind boxes just kept coming and coming to a point I got hysterical...
Then I tried dabbling into setting up the loose mini figurines in the same old display cabinet and for the first time in my life, I actually loathed the sight of miniatures..heehee but I still managed to clear some before we decided to knock off at around 2 in the morning with Miyano keeping us aware of the time...

1st December 2007, it will be remembered as the next chapter in La Tendo's short history so far as it opened its doors for customers at 10am together with the soft launch of the shopping mall...
I was hesistant whether to made the long journey to the East after a few hours of sleep... but in the end, my natural instinct felt right to show the guys my support on their opening....
As discovered yesterday, it was actually quite convenient to take Bus 16 from town if traffic condition permits...a mere 10 minutes ride to the Kallang Leisure Park...
Despite the vociferous advertising of the management, their choice of shutter service route which picks customers from Bedok MRT basically favored the Eastern-based population which surely is their main focus demography, the large mall was not swamped by curious crowd with all the buzzing noise on the stage with magic shows, games and mini concerts; to us it was a irritant which couldn't get away...

As expected the response to La Tendo in this obscurity was rather lukewarm though several regulars were seen wandering to admire the new set-up...
A few mentioned it wasn't too hard to get here and it wasn't, perhaps getting back would be much tougher...
Bryan was lambasting how the management of the mall were poor in attracting the right crowd, on the contrary, the locality of the place will always be hard to attract others who felt town was much more convenient...
There were larger crowd flowing into the blue-tinted toy shops during meal times but as we unanimously agreed, the figurines are not really to the taste of the general public thus evidently the plush toys corner was the main catchment area of attention.
However at the end of the day, sales from walk-in customers was still measly...
Tay-chan said give them time to ferment in them the yearn to purchase these Japan hobby figurines, we all hoped so...

On Sunday, my running nose halted me to go down to Hougang stadium for the weekly badminton... With Karen cooped up with her JLPT 2, Tay-chan & Vincent requiring to be at the new shop by 10 and the Chong brothers had their own domestic commitment, it was a record low attendance this week with only Chan & EK...
I did met up with the former at AMK Hub for some visual treats but as he mentioned, with the opening of the new shop, one of the LT guys would surely miss each week...
Well we would have to grown accustomed to this setting though it would be hard as not eating at home on regular basis...

Japanese word of the day: に慣れている ~ni-na-re-te-i-ru~(Grown Accustomed to) Perhaps we had to grow accustomed to walking out to get transportation from the secluded island known as Kallang Leisure Park.
