Let The Extravaganza Begins
9th June 2006, Friday
JxMMy is still too ill to work today and there was a strong speculation that he had contracted dengue fever...
I may really hate him to the core but I never would want such an unfortunate event to befall on him...
Later on I think my supervisor mentioned that it was not dengue afterall and he should be all clear to report to work again back on Mon...
Meanwhile Bobby, who is void of life as always, took over his side project with "UNCLE" if not the aggregated stock in his absence would be too exasperating for him to handle at one go...
But then he would be rueing over the fact at his sick bed, that his thunder has all been stolen...
Anyway I just savour every second on this last day of the work week without his presence of course, and strive on to work more diligently....
Today is also LF's official last day and she couldn't wait to get the hell out of here especially with the indifferent treatment her Indian boss had showered since her resignation 6 weeks back...
He made her work extra hard to appease his own sense of betrayal or something...what is the issue with Indian (from the actual country of course) bosses, they seemed to be really stingy and famous for treating their subordinates like dirt...perhaps they got so many people back home which sometime they do consider as dirt...
Anyway today marks the beginning of the World Cup 2006 at Germany of course...
After the opening ceremony this evening, the host nation would meet Costa Rica in Munich at 12 midnight local time...
I hope I would be awake by then to catch it live though this is one of those matches I don't really give a hoot...
Our local free-to-air channel would be showing 4 petty matches (due to barrings from the cable network which owned the rights of course)..this match as well as the semis and the final on the 9th of July...
Of course I had suscribed the pay-per-view as reflected on my bill which was just in yesterday...
They better be working properly on my system or someone would be going through a baptism of fire...
Anyway I am all set for a weekend of explosive high quality football action and below are my predictions for the matches for the next 3 nights:
Germany vs Costa Rica (Group A)
Ballack is most probably out of this tie but they have a more than abled replacement in Bremen's Borowski.
Then you had the dynamic young guns in Podolski & Schweinsteiger would provide enough ammunition up front and klose had a record of scoring against weak teams
Basically you have 2 attacking sides with penetrable defences, so I am hoping for goals galore (but not one side affair) for the opening match...
Prediction: Germany 3: C.Rica 1 (Germany have the home ground advantage and are too good for the C.Ricans with only an ageing Wanchope to bank on)
Poland vs Ecuador (Group A)
YAWN...who really care about this match?
I am not gonna waste sleep to watch this game at 3 later on...
Prediction: Poland 1 : Ecuador 0 (Tight affair since both teams are not that fantastic but Celtic striker, Zurawski should be keeping up his goal-scoring form)
England vs Paraguay (Group B)
I will be at Matthew's weding banquet when this match begins...
Paraguay is quite certain Santa Cruz wouldn't be fit enough for this game so a lot would then depends on Nelson Valdez for the goals but the English defence should be too good for the Paraguayan attack...
Meanwhile Gerrard might not start but then I am sure he will...While alot is on Crouch to have the midas touch in scoring goals..I think better watch out for Joe Cole cos I feel this would be his tournament to shine...
Prediction: England 2 : Paraguay 0 (Unless the South American pull a rabbit out of their hat)
T&T vs Sweden (Group B)
Sweden has always been one of my favorite teams since USA 94 and they are up against one of the touted whipping boys beside Togo
Prediction: T&T 0 : Sweden 3 (A would be a straight Swedish victory, just depends on how many goals they will score)
Argentina vs Ivory Coast (Group C)
The group of death begins with this game...as Chelsea mates Drogba and Crespo cross swords and see who will have the most valid reason to stay in the team...
It would be tough for Argentina as they seems to struggle against the African
Prediction Argentina 2 : Ivory Coast 2 (It would be clsoe for sure)
Holland vs S&M (Group C)
The one I definitely must watch but I doubt it would be an easy game for my beloved Dutch at least players are coming back...and there maybe disharmony withiin the Serb camp
Prediction: Either Holland 1: S&M 0 or a 1:1 or 0:0 (The Dutch defence have to peform against the towering Zigic)
Mexico vs Iran (Group D)
Two teams I don't know too well but should able to perform in this tournament
Prediction: Mexico 1: Iran 1 (the most viable prediction)
Angola vs Portugal (Group D)
Angola should have no capability to beat their former colonial conqeuror as this Portuguese team is way too deep in strength...
Prediction: Angola 0 : Portigal 4 (Look out for how the Portuguese midfield ditctates the game)

Japanese word of the day: 予言 (Prediction) Let's see how many hit the jackpot, though I am still against gambling on the results
