Good Bye Tom!

19th May 2005, Thursday

As the world awaits the final chapter of the Star Wars prequel trilogy, "Revenge of the Shit...er..Sith"; I hope today would pass as prompt as yesterday in an uneventful fashion....

Feel a bit more relaxed today unlike the rigidness like yesterday, and even did some work at my workstation, something I dare not do before...

Our internet service access to foreign websites are tremendously been slowed down due to the server problem at NUS (which is our parent server) and the IT team sure has been badly preoccupied the entire week through...

I left yesterday evening with Tommy the Norwegian programmer struggling to finish up the other process which seems ok on dry run but failed on the actual run, but he managed to accomplish it by 7..and returns today to finish up the loose ends..sure is one responsible guy...
He told me that he has reserved a pair of movie tickets for Star Wars Episode III this evening and he was estactic that the tickets are so much cheaper as compared to his homeland ($8.50 here, $22.50 over in Olso)...
We also chatted more of the difference in culture between the 2 nations and he showed me the picture of his 3 and a half years old daughter whom he really missed during this Singapore stint...
He also mentioned that his fiance is in her final year to become a professional nurse and that his salary package is not as attractive as our professions back in Norway which is a pretty wealthy country with the natural resource of oil rewarding the next few generations...

I also recommeded him to go down some club at One Fullarton to get a feel of the nightlife in Singapore, which he would consider if he and his colleague, Morten would get a day off for tommorrow before he departs our island...

He is also under the weather with perhaps jet-lag and fallen ill as the flu bug has been rampant for a while now...
As the program runs smoothly, he requested to take a picture with me and JxMMy to commemorate his visit and it sure was an enlightening one both professionally and personally...

The rest of the afternoon I just slack around, awaiting the return of our supervisor which seemed very much improbable, tommorrow perhaps..

Japanese word of the day: くつろぐ ~ku-tsu-ro-gu~ (Relax) a bit more today
